Gerald J. Letourneau

Gerald J. Letourneau obtained an LL.M. degree, Masters in Taxation, from New York University
School of Law in 1964, and his law degree from Washburn University School of Law, with honors,
in 1962. He is a 1959 graduate of Benedictine College, with a Bachelor of Science degree,
magna cum laude, in Business and Accounting.
While in law school he was the editor-in-chief of the Washburn Law Journal and the New
York University Intramural Law Review.
Mr. Letourneau has worked as a research attorney for the Kansas Supreme Court and has been
practicing law in Topeka for over 30 years. He was a senior member of Colmery, McClure,
Letourneau, Merriam and Stauffer, P.A., when that firm consolidated its practice with Goodell,
Stratton, Edmonds & Palmer, LLP in 1987.
Mr. Letourneau has extensive experience in all areas of income tax and estate tax, estate
planning and probate, as well as business and tax planning for corporations and partnerships,
including acquisitions and mergers. He has practiced at all levels of the Internal Revenue
Service and Kansas Department of Revenue in the areas of income, estate and inheritance tax
matters. He has extensive experience before the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals in real estate,
personal property and sales tax controversies.
Mr. Letourneau has served as an officer and two-term member of the School Board of Hayden High
School; an officer and two-term member of the Board of Directors of the Topeka Community Mental
Health Association; Vice-Chairman and three-term member of the Parish Council of St. Matthew's
Church; President and Trustee for The Villages, Inc.; and has been active in numerous civic and
community organizations.
He has prepared "Estate Tax Notes" for the Kansas Bar Association Newsletter. He is past-Chairman
and member of the Washburn University Law Institute. He is a frequent speaker at seminars and
educational programs sponsored by the Kansas and Topeka Bar Associations, Washburn University
School of Law, and St. Francis Hospital Foundation. He has served as president and treasurer of
the Topeka Bar Association.
He is listed in the Best Lawyers in America and is admitted to practice before the U. S. Supreme
Court.
